★★About Hina-Matsuri★★

Hina-Matsuri is the event for whishing girl’s healthy growth and happiness. This event is held during the best season for peach so this event is also called “momo-no-sekku (Peach Festival)”. There isn’t the right word for Hina-Matsuri in English so a English-Japanese dictionary says it “the Girl’s Festival”. Generally, people display Hina Dolls with peach trees and some food called “hina-arare (sweet rice crackers)”, “hishi-mochi (diamond-shaped rice cakes)” and “shirozake (sweet white sake)”. There are different kinds of Hina-dolls. But the most luxurious and magnificent kind is called “dan-kazari” which is displayed on a tiered stand with red cloth and you can find them with many other dolls and beautiful furniture. They are so gorgeous!

 ★★Edo Nagashi-bina★★

This Japanese traditional festival is held in Sumida River close from Asakusa Station. In this festival, people transform children’s misfortune and disasters onto dolls made by paper and plants and expel evil spirits and purify them by throwing paper dolls in the river and pray for children’s safety and good health. The scene of throwing dolls to the river from Japanese houseboats is so stunning and you can see this beautiful scene only in Japan! This is very popular for foreign visitors. Why don’t you stop by and join this event when you come to Asakusa?
