Unlike other countries, smoking rules in Japan are a little bit strange.
To put it plainly, you can smoke indoors but not outdoors.
In many restaurants and cafes, there is a smoking section. However, it is not allowed to smoke except for in smoking areas outdoors. It is also not allowed to smoke while walking.
